The central regions of Arkansas, USA, were impacted by a significant hailstorm as severe thunderstorms swept through the area on June 14.
Video footage taken from inside a home in Hot Springs shows large hailstones falling onto Hamilton Lake. The National Weather Service issued warnings about hail the size of baseballs and wind speeds reaching up to 112 km/h across the region.
What is Hail? Hail is a weather phenomenon consisting of balls or irregular lumps of ice that vary in shape and size, caused by extreme convection within thunderstorm clouds. The sizes can range from 5 mm to several centimeters, typically around a few centimeters, and are usually spherical and asymmetrical. Hailstones often fall alongside rain. |
