What kind of fish can be easily caught so close to shore?
A man stands on the beach, casting a net far into the water, then slowly pulling it back to shore with surprising results. Many mullet (Scientific name: Mugilidae) were caught in the net after just one cast, despite the fact that he was standing close to the shore!
Mullet are active fish during high tide, with the most significant activity occurring in the morning. A simple trick is to throw stones far out into the water, which scares the fish towards the shore, allowing fishermen to cast their nets and then pull them in.
Just by casting the net, fishermen can pull in a large catch of mullet shortly after.
Mullet can be distinguished from other fish by the presence of two separate rows of dorsal fins. They tend to live in schools, a behavior that is most pronounced from October to April of the following year (breeding season).
