Attacked by Three Dogs, Kangaroo Immediately Fights Back, Forcing Opponents to Retreat.
This incident occurred in Captains Flat, New South Wales, Australia.
The 52-second clip was uploaded to TikTok and has garnered over 675,000 views. In the video, a woman can be heard calling her dogs back as a large male kangaroo stands tall, ready to defend itself.
Despite her calls, the dogs continued to approach, barking incessantly. Shortly after, the kangaroo caught one of the black dogs and began to fight with it. Although outnumbered, the pack of dogs quickly retreated in the face of the kangaroo’s aggression.
“I was walking my dogs along a creek in the backyard when a kangaroo jumped in to fight. It then jumped into the creek, and my dogs chased after it. I was afraid the kangaroo would drown them, so I stopped filming and hit it with a stick until it jumped away,” said the person who filmed the incident.
The kangaroo caught a black dog and fought with it.
Expert on kangaroos, Alyssa Wormald, commented: “Kangaroos do not lure dogs into danger; they retreat into the water as a last resort to defend themselves against attacks. They only fight back in self-defense, which is clearly depicted in the video.”
After viewing the clip, wild ecologist Professor Euan Ritchie from Deakin University also shared his thoughts on the matter.
“Kangaroos do not lure dogs to water; they retreat towards it, where they can use their height advantage as well as their long arms and strong claws to hold and submerge dogs that swim out to try to attack them,” Euan Ritchie stated.
