It is reported that at least six people have died, 32 others were injured, and approximately 20 passengers are still missing.
Colonel Edgard Estevo, commander of the Minas Gerais Fire Department, stated that heavy rainfall in recent days may have caused the landslide. Search efforts for the missing individuals will continue, but divers will halt their search at night to ensure their safety.
On his personal Twitter account, the Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, expressed his condolences for the tremendous loss suffered by the victims’ families and affirmed that the government will continue its efforts in search and rescue operations.
Capitólio, located about 280 km from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, is known as a popular tourist destination featuring majestic cliffs situated on a vast lake.
