A record-breaking sandstorm has unexpectedly struck, causing chaos in a Chinese city.
At around 3 PM on July 25, a massive sandstorm hit Dunhuang, located in northwestern China. Clouds and dust rising at least 100 meters swept across the city, creating a scene of chaos. The entire city of Dunhuang was shrouded in an orange-yellow hue, with dust filling the air, and the sky turned dark even though it was mid-afternoon.
The local authorities had to urgently deploy police forces to control traffic on the roads, instructing drivers to immediately leave the highway to avoid casualties. Major roads were blocked and could only be reopened after the storm passed.
Videos recorded by residents from various locations were widely shared on social media, showcasing the rare and frightening scene of the sandstorm. Tall buildings appeared to be “swallowed” by the massive dust cloud.
