Two Hamadryas baboons (Scientific name: Papio hamadryas) engaged in a fierce battle for territory. Baboons are known for their strong territorial behavior, and even leopards will be chased away if they enter their domain.
Territorial battle of baboons.
Their fights are often loud, accompanied by the screams of the males. The males have a distinctive silver-white fur and a pronounced mane, and are significantly larger than the females (sexual dimorphism).
One male, shown below, was surrounded and attacked by other males. Despite being outnumbered, it proved to be a tough opponent. The baboon took refuge in a rocky cave, using the terrain to defend itself against the overwhelming enemy.
