According to the assessment by the Asia-Oceania Computing Industry Association (ASOCIO), Vietnam is one of the 25 most attractive countries in the world for software outsourcing.
In markets such as the United States, Hungary, and especially Japan, the reputation of Vietnamese software companies is increasingly being recognized, ranking just behind companies from China, India, and South Korea. Currently, approximately 80-90% of the revenue for many Vietnamese software companies primarily comes from exports.
Vietnam now has over 600 companies operating in the software outsourcing sector, employing around 15,000 engineers and technicians. Many Vietnamese companies have been awarded international software development certifications, particularly two companies, FPT and PSV, which have achieved the highest CMM certification level – CMM 5.
According to Dr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA), although this is still a relatively young economic sector, in the past three years, the Vietnamese software industry has made significant progress, with an average growth rate of 30-45%. In 2004, the total value of software development services in Vietnam reached 170 million USD, of which 45 million USD was from exports.
