With this successful connection, VinaRen has linked up with national research and education networks of China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Australia. As a part of TEIN2—the first large-scale high-speed research network in the Asia region—VinaRen provides Vietnamese scientists and research experts the opportunity to participate in world-class collaborative research projects.
According to Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Thang, with the proposed applications of the TEIN2 project in telemedicine, electronic culture, e-learning, and disaster prevention, this initiative will create significant opportunities for researchers and educators in Vietnam, expanding their capacity and capabilities in scientific research and international collaboration with colleagues in Europe and Asia.
TEIN2, the Trans-Eurasia Information Network 2, was established as an initiative at the 5th ASEM Summit held in Hanoi. The network began being established in late 2004, primarily funded by the European Commission, with the aim of opening the gateway for global research collaboration for countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
