Associate Professor Dr. Tạ Thị Hoài An has recently been approved by the State Professor Council to meet the qualifications for the title of professor in 2023. She has become the third female mathematics professor in Vietnam in nearly 70 years.
Among the 630 candidates approved by the State Professor Council for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor in 2023, the mathematics sector has 2 professors and 24 associate professors. One of the two professors in mathematics this year is Tạ Thị Hoài An from the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Professor Tạ Thị Hoài An.
Born in 1972 in Nghệ An, she graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate in Mathematics from Vinh University.
In 2015, she received her Doctor of Science degree in Mathematics from Clermont-Ferrand 2 Blaise Pascal University in France. In 2009, she was recognized and appointed as an associate professor.
From December 1995 to September 2001, she was a lecturer at Vinh University.
From September 2001 to August 2004, she pursued postdoctoral research at the Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica in Taiwan.
From September 2004 to March 2005, she resumed her position as a lecturer at Vinh University.
From March 2005 to March 2013, she worked as a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Since April 2014, she has been a senior researcher at the Institute of Mathematics.
Professor Tạ Thị Hoài An has successfully supervised three doctoral candidates who defended their theses.
She has completed four Ministry-level research projects and published 33 scientific papers, all of which are in prestigious international journals.
If we consider the historical milestone in 1956, when Vietnam first conferred the title of professor, she is the third female mathematics professor in Vietnam in nearly 70 years.
The first female mathematics professor in Vietnam is Professor Dr. Hoàng Xuân Sính. Before being officially recognized as the first female mathematics professor in Vietnam in 1980, Professor Hoàng Xuân Sính was also the first foreign woman to successfully defend her doctoral thesis in mathematics in Paris, France.
For 35 years, the second female mathematics professor in Vietnam, recognized in 2015, is Professor Dr. Lê Thị Thanh Nhàn, who currently works at the Ministry of Education and Training. When recognized and appointed, she was a lecturer at Thai Nguyen University.
