From February 16 to 19, 2006, Chiang Mai, Thailand, will host a competition among 16 countries for the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) for the fifth time. Dr. Nguyen Quy Son, the chairman of the APICTA Vietnam jury, led the Vietnamese delegation to Thailand with 10 competing products.
APICTA was established at the initiative of former Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Mahathir Mohamad, first held in 2001, and is organized annually in member countries. The awards include 14 gold cups presented to industrial and professional products across 14 specialized ICT application fields, as well as awards for research and development, university students, and high school students. Participants include businesses, research organizations, training institutions, and individual authors of ICT products from APICTA member countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and China.
APICTA holds significant importance, contributing to enhancing exchanges and promoting cooperation in the development of the ICT industry in the Asia-Pacific region. The nature of the awards is competitive; it is not only a competition among businesses but also a comprehensive rivalry among countries regarding the level of science, technology, research, training, and ICT application. Through APICTA, the level of ICT development in participating countries can be clearly observed. APICTA is truly the most prestigious award for ICT in the Asia-Pacific region today. The selection process is very stringent and direct elimination; each specialty category can have only one gold cup.
Vietnam will participate in this APICTA with the following products: Standardization and cleaning solution for transparent network protocols – TNT; Real-time image processing application for automated traffic monitoring; Doctor’s information technology system; Communication symbol dictionary for the hearing impaired; Electronic office system at Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology; IRP Solutions – comprehensive enterprise management based on ERP model; Online information provision solution integrated with mvnForum and mvn CMS portals; Core banking solution for modern banks; License management; Recommending system.
