The Prime Minister has just approved the direction, objectives, and key tasks for science and technology for the period 2006-2010, aiming for the country’s scientific and technological capabilities to reach the average level of the region by 2010.
According to this direction, Vietnam will strive to enhance the quality and effectiveness of domestic projects to meet international standards, comparable to advanced countries in the region, and to build a team of highly skilled scientific and technological personnel capable of addressing key national scientific and technological tasks at an international level.
The objective for Vietnam is that by 2010, 50% of key state-level science and technology programs will be applied and directly serve production and business activities. Additionally, Vietnam will establish the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park and create 100 research groups to seek technological secrets as a foundation for forming and developing science and technology enterprises.
To achieve these objectives, Vietnam will focus on investing in high-efficiency research and application fields such as biotechnology, mechanical engineering and automation, energy technology, agricultural and food preservation and processing, and space technology.
