This marks the beginning of Viettel Post’s transformation journey into a professional, green, and efficient logistics company. The logistics ecosystem includes warehouse management software, app/web systems, a technology solution chain for weight monitoring, conveyor monitoring, smart locks, and more, all developed by a team of 100% Vietnamese engineers and experts.
On January 17, Viettel Post, a subsidiary of Viettel Group, inaugurated the first intelligent sorting technology complex in Vietnam.
The intelligent sorting technology complex, inaugurated by Viettel Post, is located in a 32,000 square meter warehouse in Quang Minh (Me Linh, Hanoi) and is said to have the highest level of automation in Vietnam. Here, 200 autonomous sorting robots (AGVs), a large sorting system (Wheel Sorter Matrix), and a conveyor sorting system (Cross-belt Sorter) are utilized. Viettel Post is the first logistics company in Vietnam to implement AGV technology, increasing the automation level in the sorting process to 99%.
With over 40 loading/unloading gates and nearly 1,200 sorting gates, the complex can handle up to 1.4 million parcels per day, a 40% increase compared to before, allowing the entire Viettel Post system to handle 4 million parcels daily, equivalent to meeting 50% of Vietnam’s e-commerce capacity. The error rate of the complex is nearly zero, shortening the overall delivery time from 8-10 hours and increasing output by 3.5 times. Thanks to automation, the complex also reduces the workforce by 60%.

The operation management of the complex is monitored by a NOC system that tracks the journey of each order in real-time. The intelligent monitoring system includes Digital Twin technology, AI cameras, and controls the status of all equipment and cargo operations, detecting and alerting about abnormal behaviors, facilitating timely resolution of arising issues.
The logistics ecosystem includes warehouse management software, app/web systems, a chain of technology solutions for weight monitoring, conveyor monitoring, smart locks, and more, all developed by a team of 100% Vietnamese engineers and experts within six months. In contrast, large global companies typically take about two years to implement similar systems for practical use.
Not just a delivery company
During the event, Viettel Post announced that it aims to excel not only in the delivery sector as before but is on a journey to transform into a professional, green, and efficient logistics company, excelling in key areas such as logistics parks, smart border gates, cross-border logistics infrastructure, and multimodal systems to synchronize connections between centers, industrial zones, farming areas, and transportation hubs by road, sea, border gates, and more.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Thanh, General Director of Viettel Post, mentioned that the smart border gate system that Viettel Post plans to implement will utilize AGV autonomous transport technology, capable of operating in all weather conditions, 24/7, controlled by a 5G network, thereby increasing customs clearance capacity by 4-5 times, effectively addressing border congestion and reducing customs costs by up to 70%.
Meanwhile, the logistics park system will provide a complete range of logistics services, including post-harvest preservation technology, customs clearance, inspection, and quarantine services, with results recognized in other countries.
The international multimodal railway system will enable Viettel Post to pull customs clearance from the border deep into the interior. Goods will be cleared, inspected, and quarantined at Yen Vien Station and Song Than Station, avoiding dependence on traditional border gates as is currently the case.
The General Director of Viettel Post also shared some technologies that the company is gradually mastering.
These include a system of robots and AGVs categorized into three groups based on their functionality and payload capacity. Specifically, sorting robots like those at the Quang Minh center have a maximum payload of 10kg. Secondly, the AGV system serves for the storage and retrieval of goods in smart warehouses with a capacity of up to 500kg. Thirdly, autonomous vehicles for containers have a capacity of 20-25 tons and can operate at seaports.
In 2024, Viettel Post will put into operation a processing center in Can Tho with sorting technology and a smart warehouse system entirely developed by the company.
Additionally, Viettel Post is also utilizing green and energy-saving technologies. The smart warehouse system does not require lighting as all robots operate in pre-designed dark environments, eliminating the need for air conditioning and thus saving energy.
The smart transport management technology helps manage routing, optimize journeys and vehicle utilization, and monitor vehicles and cargo journeys in real-time, with applications for analyzing system load, thereby providing the most reasonable exploitation strategies. Currently, Viettel Post manages about 4,000 transport vehicles but plans to increase this to 30,000-40,000 vehicles in the near future, operating multimodal transport to Southeast Asian countries and China.
“After telecommunications, logistics will be the next path for Viettel to ‘Go Global’, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Thanh said.
Currently, Viettel Post has invested and operates in Myanmar and Cambodia. In 2024, the company will invest and operate in Laos, Thailand, and China, with a long-term goal of creating cross-border trade connections. In the second phase of the ‘Go Global’ plan, Viettel Post will study expansion into Japan, Australia, Europe, and the United States.
Mr. Tào Đức Thắng, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group emphasized: “The inauguration of the first and largest intelligent sorting technology complex in Vietnam is the initial step in building intelligent logistics infrastructure. In addition to the two national infrastructures that Viettel has built on the largest and widest scale in Vietnam—telecommunications and digital infrastructure—Viettel continues to build national logistics infrastructure, contributing to making Vietnam a logistics hub in the region and the world, participating in the goal that by 2025, the logistics sector will contribute 5-6% to GDP.”
