Mr. Dinh Ngoc Sy, Director of the Central Lung and Tuberculosis Hospital, stated at the conference summarizing the 20-year national TB control program on July 27.
Between 2001 and 2005, Vietnam identified nearly 500,000 new TB cases. The highest incidence was recorded in the Mekong Delta region, with a rate of 100 per 100,000 population for pulmonary TB AFB (+) and 150 per 100,000 for all forms of TB.
However, according to Mr. Sy, the current TB prevention efforts are facing challenges due to the increasing number of patients co-infected with TB and HIV, as well as drug-resistant TB…
From 2006 to 2010, the TB control program will implement the establishment of diagnostic centers and provide medication for multi-drug-resistant TB patients; enhance accessibility for ethnic minorities and impoverished populations… aiming to detect 85% of TB cases in the community, achieve a treatment success rate of 90.6%, and reduce both the incidence and mortality rates by 50% by 2015.
