Many residents in Borrowdale Valley refer to the mysterious artworks as “Banksy’s creations” – named after the anonymous graffiti artist who has become a symbol of contemporary street art in England – because no one knows who made them.
Mr. Shawn Williamson, a sculptor from Windermere, stated on BBC Radio Cumbria: “These pieces are formed from large slate slabs arranged in an arch to frame the view behind them. Many artists in the past have created similar works, each with their own unique touch.”
“This artwork truly reflects the colors of the Lake District and the local traditional crafts, intertwined with the breathtaking natural scenery of the area. All of this makes them incredibly mysterious,” Mr. Shawn Williamson added.
Photographer Carl Halliday has captured images of the stone artworks and shared them online. The photos have garnered significant attention from the online community.
The BBC has not disclosed the specific location of these artworks due to some areas having terrain that could pose dangers to curious onlookers.
