On April 28, 2006, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and International Telecommunications Company (VTI) officially launched the VSAT-IP service.
According to VTI, the entire VSAT-IP system has been completed, including ground equipment, satellite equipment, IP devices, and service quality measurement, ensuring reliable service provision to customers.
With a fully operational VSAT-IP system, VNPT/VTI will offer services such as telephone, broadband Internet access, mobile backhaul, virtual private networks (VPNs), video conferencing, and online television. Initially, VTI will provide telephone services, broadband Internet access, mobile backhaul, and VPNs, with plans to expand additional services in the future.
As a member of VNPT, VTI has been researching, implementing, and operating the VSAT DAMA satellite communication system since late 1995 to provide basic services such as voice, fax, and low-speed data transmission. These services have significantly contributed to economic and social development, as well as national defense and security in many border and island areas.
Since August 2005, VTI has been simultaneously deploying VSAT-IP stations in remote and rural areas across 17 provinces and cities nationwide. By the end of December 2005, 124 VSAT-IP stations had been installed and put into operation, meeting the government’s target of providing telephone access to 100% of communes in the country by 2005.
