A rare albino buffalo has been sold for a staggering 18 million baht (approximately 504,500 USD) at a fair in Thailand.
This prized buffalo, named Ko Muang Phet, is owned by Mr. Damrongsak Morakot from Phetchaburi province in southern Thailand and has held the title of Thailand’s top breeding buffalo for several years, according to The Nation.
90% of Ko Muang Phet’s calves will be albino.
Famous for its striking beauty and massive size—standing at 1.80 meters tall—this 5-year-old buffalo is renowned for its exceptional breeding capabilities. 90% of Ko Muang Phet’s calves will be born with albino characteristics, making it a valuable asset in the buffalo farming industry.
Moreover, Ko Muang Phet has made a mark in the entertainment industry by playing the role of the buffalo in the latest version of the popular drama series Mon Rak Luk Thung.
Ko Muang Phet was purchased by Wanasuwan Farm in Chiang Rai during the 12th Uthai Thani Thai Buffalo Festival held last weekend. The price tag of 18 million baht drew significant attention and marks the highest buffalo sale to date.
The renowned animal has now retired from competitions to focus on producing a new generation.
Mr. Damrongsak shared that his passion for exploring the potential of Thailand’s buffalo farming industry led him to Ko Muang Phet.
Starting with the purchase and care of ordinary buffalo, he gradually developed and established the Morakot Farm 9 in Tha Yang district, Phetchaburi, where he began to see annual profits of up to 8 million baht.
Ko Muang Phet is cared for by Mr. Damrongsak as if it were his own child.
Although parting with the precious buffalo was a difficult decision, Mr. Damrongsak hopes that its new owner will continue to expand the legacy of the animal and contribute to the development of Thailand’s albino buffalo farming industry.
He aspires to promote Thailand’s buffalo farming to be recognized globally, positioning the country as a leader in buffalo farming and revitalizing the industry for future generations.
