An engineer in Ho Chi Minh City has created a water pump powered by… a motorcycle engine! Compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand, this pump can lift water up to 12 meters high.

This motorcycle engine-powered pump is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand. |
Weighing just 1,450 grams and named the Gamma-P100, the pump operates by being attached to the ignition shaft of a motorcycle engine. Once the engine is started, the pump is ready to work. During operation, the motorcycle must be in neutral gear, and the throttle should be fully engaged to ensure stable operation of both the engine and the pump. (see image below)
During the pumping process, the fuel consumption of the motorcycle engine is 0.6-0.7 liters per hour.
Despite its small size, this pump can draw water from a depth of 6 to 8 meters and can pump it as high as 12 meters with a maximum flow rate of 12–18 cubic meters per hour, achieving a pumping pressure of 4.5 – 6.5 kg/cm².
According to engineer Nguyen Van Thang, the creator of this pump, the Gamma-P100 is convenient for irrigation and pesticide spraying purposes.

Additionally, it is useful for firefighting efforts in small areas since motorcycles are a common mode of transportation among locals. Moreover, the pump’s assembly and disassembly process is extremely simple, ensuring that it can be used for firefighting in the shortest possible time.
Engineer Nguyen Van Thang explains that Gamma-P100 stands for “attached to a motorcycle with a minimum engine capacity of 100cc.”
The pump can be fitted not only to motorcycle engines but also to any engine with similar power and a rotational speed of 2,200–3,000 RPM, using a 42mm pipe joint.
Nguyen Van Thang has registered his invention with the Intellectual Property Office and established a company named Khanh Son Co., Ltd. (228/10 Le Quang Dinh, Ward 14, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) to market the product.
The Gamma-P100 is sold for 350,000 VND each.

He also mentioned that a forestry unit has already placed an order for 200 Gamma-P100 pumps.
Moreover, Khanh Son Co., Ltd. is planning to sponsor firefighting efforts in Ward 14, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City by establishing fire hydrants equipped with pumps and hoses at key locations.
When needed, residents can simply attach the Gamma pump to their motorcycle and the fire hydrant to extinguish fires on-site.
Engineer Nguyen Van Thang was born in 1958, previously served in the military, and graduated as a marine engineering engineer from the Maritime University in 1995.
