Residents of Beijing, China can contribute to water conservation efforts by using a new type of toilet.
The water-saving toilet exhibition held on June 7 showcased a series of new toilets that have a more positive impact on the environment.
Beijing is known as the most “arid” major city in the world, and a report released last month indicated that the city will face a severe water shortage during the 2008 Olympic Games if current water consumption patterns persist. “This new type of toilet helps save water,” affirmed Zheng Qing Zhan, the manager of the Kuge toilet cluster. He added that most modern toilets use 6 liters of water per flush, while this new toilet model only requires between 2.6 to 3.8 liters of water.
