The young entrepreneur behind milliondollarhomepage.com is facing a lawsuit from a company that paid $38,000 for the last 1,000 pixels.
The website milliondollarweightloss.com won a pixel auction on eBay’s platform. However, this “weight loss” site claims that Alex Tew merely “boasted” in the sales contract and has decided to file a lawsuit in the United States.
According to the attorney representing milliondollarweightloss.com, Tew promised the site’s owner that they would “gain significant notoriety” from the auction. “Our client won and sent money to Mr. Tew eight days ago, and Mr. Tew had at least five days to promote it. But our client has been forced to bear all costs without receiving any benefits.”
However, Tew insists that he never guaranteed the winner would receive media promotion and hopes the issue can be resolved without going to court.
On his personal blog, Tew also congratulated milliondollarweightloss.com on their victory while mentioning that the UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit and the FBI are investigating denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and ransom emails directed at him reaching up to $50,000 over the past week.
“I apologize to all advertisers on the site during the downtime. I also hope my clients see that I am trying to do everything possible to maintain the website without paying any ransom to the extortionists,” Tew stated.
