The famous seafood restaurant in London has received mixed reactions after announcing the availability of a stuffed duck neck dish.
This duck neck dish costs £18.
Western Laundry, a seafood restaurant located in Drayton Park, London, shared a photo showcasing the entire duck head and neck, tied with a string and carefully presented on a plate. Inside, the restaurant’s chef has stuffed it with lentils and turnips.
The restaurant describes this as a special dish that can only be found here and is priced at £18, equivalent to over 550,000 VND. The stuffed duck neck is the third most expensive item on the menu, with the most expensive being duck breast, pommes Anna, cabbage, and bacon at £26 (approximately over 800,000 VND).
Explaining the dish, a representative from the restaurant stated: “We want to honor the lives of these animals by utilizing every part of them to create the best dishes.”
The photo quickly went viral online, attracting various reactions from netizens. While some defended the unique dish, others expressed their objections, with many appearing horrified and criticizing the new item as overpriced.
“It’s a unique idea, the dish looks delicious,” “Too expensive for just a duck’s head and neck,” “Just seeing food like that on the table makes me want to give up,” “It’s horrifying, I can’t look at the picture,” “To enjoy the dish, I first have to overcome my fear. I’m not sure if I can do that,”… were some comments from netizens.
One user explained that stuffed duck or goose is not a new dish; it has long been a part of Southwestern French cuisine.
Western Laundry has been operating since 2017 and consistently receives positive feedback from diners. While there are no evaluations on the taste of the dishes, in terms of luxury, this restaurant does not lag behind many other competitors located in prime spots in London. Many describe it as a dining venue like an “elegant performance,” “smart kitchen,” with skillfully presented dining tables.
