The tallest woman in the world and the shortest woman in the world met for afternoon tea in London to celebrate World Guinness Record Day, according to CNN.
According to a statement from Guinness World Records (GWR) on November 20, Rumeysa Gelgi, who stands at 215.16 cm, and Jyoti Amge, who is 62.8 cm tall, met at the Savoy Hotel in London, England.
The tallest and shortest women in the world meet.
The height difference between the two women is 152.36 cm, but the pair is said to get along very well. “We have a lot in common. We both enjoy makeup, self-care, jewelry, and doing our nails,” Gelgi stated.
She added: “Sometimes we find it hard to make eye contact because of the height difference, but it’s wonderful.”
Amge expressed that she was “very happy” to meet someone who shares the same record with her.
Gelgi, a web designer from Turkey, was confirmed as the tallest living woman in 2021. Her height is due to an extremely rare condition known as Weaver syndrome. She is the 27th person in the world diagnosed with this syndrome, according to GWR.
At 27 years old, Gelgi also holds records for the largest hands of a woman measuring 24.93 cm long; the longest back of a living woman at 59.90 cm; and the longest ears of a woman, averaging 9.58 cm.
Gelgi has also appeared in the GWR documentary titled Rumeysa: Walking Tall, which chronicles her journey across America to meet other record holders.
Rumeysa Gelgi and Jyoti Amge attract attention when appearing in the same frame.
Amge, an actress and social media influencer born in India, has a bony growth disorder known as achondroplasia, which affects her arms and legs. This disorder occurs in the early stages of fetal development in the womb and impacts cartilage tissue, which will grow into the child’s arms and legs.
This young woman has a significant social media presence and has also appeared in the American television series American Horror Story: Freak Show in the role of Ma Petite. This means she officially became the shortest actress ever, according to GWR.
Amge has also made several appearances on the Italian television show Lo Show Dei Record.
GWR’s editor-in-chief, Craig Glenday, met both women in London and stated that the purpose of the meeting was to “celebrate diversity.” “By bringing together these two incredible and iconic women, they can share their life perspectives with each other and with us,” Glenday explained.
Both Gelgi and Amge have been named GWR ICONS – a new category introduced for the 2025 edition of the record book.
