Scientists have calculated the time when human life on Earth will come to an end. That date is October 31, 2,252,006—more than 2.25 million years from now.
European geologists and paleontologists discovered this date after studying 22-million-year-old fossils in Spain. The team asserts that the average lifespan of mammal species is approximately 2.5 million years. Modern humans have been around for about 250,000 years.
Led by researcher Jan Van Dam from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, the team also found that every 2.5 million years, the Earth’s orbit is slightly altered due to cosmic influences. This shift will prevent the Earth from getting close enough to the sun, leading to a global chill. This ice age could potentially wipe out the entire human species.
