Transparent phone cases often turn yellow after prolonged use.
Many people choose transparent cases to showcase the original design and color of their phones. However, these cases typically turn yellow if used for an extended period.
While this can be annoying and aesthetically unpleasing, the plastic used to manufacture these cases is inherently yellow. Manufacturers only add blue dye to enhance transparency.
In other words, the yellowing of transparent cases is inevitable. However, there are solutions that can help users restore the clear white color of this accessory.

Most transparent smartphone cases are made from silicone, acrylic, or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). All three materials are known for their high durability and good heat resistance.
According to How-To Geek, not all transparent cases turn yellow. Rigid cases are almost unaffected by this issue. In contrast, soft, flexible, and inexpensive cases are at the highest risk of yellowing.
Several environmental factors can accelerate the yellowing of transparent cases. The first is ultraviolet (UV) rays, a common radiation encountered when exposed to sunlight.
Over time, UV rays break down the chemical bonds between the long polymer chains that make up the case. This results in shorter polymer chains, highlighting the natural yellow color of the case.
Heat from the sun, the phone itself, and sweat from hands can accumulate and hasten this process. Even cases that are not entirely transparent can yellow due to environmental factors.
ESR, a company specializing in manufacturing cases for smartphones and tablets, offers a solution to restore the case to its transparent color. Simply mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water, then scrub the solution onto the case using a toothbrush.
During the cleaning process, be sure to clean the button grooves and connection ports. Finally, rinse and wipe the case with a soft cloth, leaving it outside at room temperature for 1-2 hours to dry completely before reattaching it to the phone.
Users can also sprinkle baking soda on the case and scrub it with a wet toothbrush. Additionally, cleaning with alcohol is another option to consider.
Put alcohol in a spray bottle, spray it on the case, and then wipe it with a dry cloth. After finishing, place the case outside at room temperature for 1-2 hours to dry completely.
