Strokes often occur in the bathroom because when showering, most of us tend to wet our heads and hair first. Experts explain that this is actually a mistaken method.
According to this way, if water touches the scalp first, blood pressure will rise quickly in the head, causing the arteries to be unable to withstand the sudden pressure, which can lead to ruptures. As a result, individuals who suffer from strokes often fall or die on the bathroom floor.
It is advisable to wash from the feet up before pouring water on the head to avoid the risk of stroke – (Illustrative photo: AI – T.T.D).
A study published in the Journal of the Medical Association of Canada has shown that the risk of strokes or transient ischemic attacks can actually last longer and can even be more dangerous.
According to various studies conducted worldwide, cases of death or paralysis due to strokes while bathing are increasing daily.
Cardiologists recommend that we follow a few principles:
1. Avoid wetting the head and hair before showering because blood circulation in the human body usually operates at a certain temperature. The body temperature requires time to adjust to the external temperature. Wetting the head first can accelerate blood flow, increasing the risk of stroke at that moment. Sudden spikes in blood pressure can tear cerebral arteries.
2. Proper showering technique: Wet the feet or pour water on the legs first, then gradually wet the entire body from the bottom up, and finally pour water on the head. Those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and frequent migraines should adhere to this method of bathing.
