Why is the human body capable of performing such incredibly flexible movements? To find the answer, Dr. Richard Wiseman, who leads a research team on this subject in the UK, conducted MRI scans of the spines of several contortionists.
The results showed no unusual signs in the bone structure of the contortionists; however, one notable finding was that their ligaments often exhibited exceptional elasticity.
According to Dr. Richard Wiseman, the tissue that connects the joints in the human body is called ligaments. These ligaments have a slight elasticity that allows for normal joint movement.
However, in a select few individuals, such as contortionists, their ligaments—through training—have developed a remarkable ability to stretch, making their bodies extremely flexible. This natural advantage allows them to continue training further, which may be the secret to their success in their careers.
