Comets are seen as omens of misfortune, as their appearances coincide with disasters and epidemics.
Throughout history, comets have been regarded as bad omens due to their unpredictable cycles. Coincidentally, they often appear during times of great calamity or natural disasters.
Halley’s Comet.
In England, Halley’s Comet was once thought to have heralded the “Black Death“ in Europe, which is regarded as the worst natural tragedy in human history.
Additionally, a comet appeared on the day Emperor Caesar was assassinated and on the day writer Mark Twain passed away.
Moreover, due to their unstable cycles, comets could potentially collide with and devastate Earth.
Many scientists believe that approximately 13,000 years ago, a comet impacted Earth, leading to the extinction of many large species and causing climate changes for about 1,300 years. This hypothesis is based on carvings found at Göbekli Tepe in Turkey.
Scientists have also predicted that in the year 4479, a 26 km wide comet could threaten to destroy Earth. Nonetheless, it remains an interesting case for astronomers to study.
