As Typhoon No. 4 persists, the heatwave in Northern Vietnam will also continue. The stronger the typhoon, the greater the divergence, resulting in higher temperatures.
Explaining the reasons behind the ongoing heatwave in the Northern and North Central regions, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Climate Forecasting Department at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, stated that the heat in these areas is directly linked to Typhoon No. 4 (Typhoon Lupit).
Heatwave in Northern and North Central regions will last for several more days.
According to Mr. Huong, when the typhoon appeared in Fujian Province of China, it drew moisture and clouds from the Northern region into its circulation, causing a northwest to west wind effect and dry conditions in Northern Vietnam. As Typhoon No. 4 remains active for an extended period, the heat in Northern Vietnam will also persist. The stronger the typhoon, the greater the divergence, leading to higher temperatures.
During this heatwave caused by Typhoon No. 4, temperatures in Northern provinces typically range from 36-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing heat exceeding 38-39 degrees Celsius.
Currently, Typhoon No. 4 has made landfall in Guangdong Province (China). It is forecasted that this typhoon is unlikely to return to the East Sea, thus the heat in Northern and North Central Vietnam will gradually decrease in the coming days.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on August 6, the Northern and Central regions will experience heat and severe heat, with some areas facing particularly intense heat, with maximum temperatures generally between 36-38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. The minimum humidity will be between 45-60%.
Forecasts indicate that due to the influence of the southwest wind causing a foehn effect combined with the divergence at high altitudes, today (August 7), the Northern and Central regions will continue to experience heat and severe heat, with some areas experiencing particularly intense heat with maximum temperatures generally between 35-38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
The relative humidity will be generally between 45-60%. The duration of temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius will be from 10 AM to 6 PM.
In the Hanoi area, today (August 7), there will be heat and severe heat, with maximum temperatures generally between 36-38 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.
The heat in Northern Vietnam is expected to last until August 9; from August 10, the heat is expected to gradually ease. In the Central region, the heat will persist for several more days.
Heatwave impact warnings: Due to the effects of heat and severe heat combined with low humidity and strong southwest winds causing a foehn effect, there is a significant risk of fires and explosions in residential areas due to high electricity demand, as well as a high risk of forest fires in Central provinces.
Additionally, the heat may lead to dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke for individuals exposed to high temperatures for prolonged periods.
Disaster risk warning level due to heatwave: Level 1.
