This is the story of a two-headed turtle currently living in Switzerland.
Janus is the name of the two-headed turtle who is now 25 years old and is being cared for by the Geneva Natural History Museum.
“Janus has two hearts, two pairs of lungs, and two distinct personalities. Sometimes each head wants to go in different directions.
The right head is more curious, alert, and has a stronger personality, while the left head is more passive and enjoys eating,” said Angelica Bourgoin, the head of the turtle care team.

So why do each of the heads of this two-headed turtle have different “personalities”?
Although Janus has a single name, his case can be described as a conjoined twin turtle – a phenomenon that can also occur in humans. And being a pair of twins, it’s not surprising that the two heads of Janus have different personalities.
Janus hatched in an incubator at the museum in 1997 and was named after the Roman god often depicted with two heads.
Caregivers admit that it is nearly impossible for the turtle to survive in the wild since both heads cannot retract into the shell.
