If you are excited about 3G, then the 4G network will definitely blow your mind. The fourth generation wireless data transmission system, known as 4G, has just been announced and demonstrated at the ongoing International Trade Exhibition in Seoul.
Developed by the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, this system – during the exhibition – is capable of data transmission speeds of up to 100 Mb/s for stationary devices. Even when you are moving at speeds of up to 120 km/h, the system still allows for seamless data transmission and reception without interruption.
What’s amazing is that, according to the engineers developing the system, this is just the beginning. Senior engineer Byeong Ho Yoon stated that if the current development pace continues, by 2010, we will be able to send and receive wireless data at speeds of up to … 1 Gb/s when stationary, and 100 Mb/s while sitting in a moving vehicle.
The experiment conducted by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute took place just a day after DoCoMo announced it had achieved real-time packet transmission speeds of up to 1 Gb/s for devices moving at 20 km/h.
The success of all these experiments, along with the fierce competition to lead the development of the next generation wireless network protocol, is bringing 4G closer to us than ever before.
