It turns out that the strange objects found by these workers are a highly valuable “treasure.”
Workers digging in the ground heard a strange sound resembling metal clashing.
Many years ago at a construction site in Hua County, Yinan, Shaanxi Province, China, while workers were using shovels to dig the earth, they suddenly heard a strange sound similar to metal clashing. The workers immediately stopped their work and went to investigate the area they had just dug, where they discovered something surprising.
At the spot where the strange sound was thought to originate, many workers approached and found numerous small, round, green objects scattered around. Out of curiosity, a few workers used their shovels to dig further in the nearby area, revealing a “cave” filled with these green objects, astonishing many. Some workers speculated whether they had just unearthed a “treasure,” as the objects they found resembled ancient coins.

This news quickly spread everywhere. The local authorities were informed and promptly sent experts to inspect the site. Police also arrived to secure the area, facilitating the experts’ assessment.
According to estimates, the “cave” covers an area of about 1m2 and contains a vast quantity of coins strung together. After a day of excavating, experts found it challenging to determine the exact number of coins in this “underground bank.” However, it is estimated that the number of coin strings exceeded 10,000, with a total weight of 2 to 3 tons.

After research and analysis, experts concluded that the coins are ancient currency from the Song Dynasty in China. Despite having endured thousands of years of history and considerable rust, the inscriptions on them remain visible. Experts also noted that most of the coins in this treasure are valued at 30 and 50 cash. They were strung together with rope, appearing very neat.
According to a well-known expert in ancient artifacts in the area, each coin discovered this time is significant and meaningful. The designs and inscriptions on the coins symbolize the developmental stages of the nation during specific historical periods.

During the research of this treasure, experts found not only common coins from the Song Dynasty, such as the Shun Ning Zhong Bao and Shun Ning Tong Bao, but also some relatively rare ancient coins like the Jing Yuan Tong Bao, Chun Hua Tong Bao, and Dai Guan Tong Bao.
Although these coins are highly valuable, after negotiations with experts, the workers at the construction site agreed to hand over this “treasure” to the government. According to Chinese law, all cultural relics remaining underground, in internal waters, and territorial seas belong to the state of China. Therefore, when citizens inadvertently discover such items, instead of keeping them for themselves, they should report to relevant experts or authorities to help establish the origin of those items.
The contribution of these workers is incredibly meaningful for the Chinese archaeological community and the cultural and historical heritage of China, helping preserve and protect the value of ancient cultural relics.
