Lukas Wahangara, a 13-year-old boy from Indonesia, has recently been freed from a “shackle” around his neck – a goiter nearly the size of a human head. He is recovering rapidly after surgery.
The massive tumor, measuring approximately 20 cm in diameter, caused Wahangara breathing difficulties and insomnia. Now, “The patient has begun to speak“, said Goh Yau Hong, a member of the surgical team. The six-member surgical team successfully removed the tumor within a 10-hour operation on November 28 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. It is expected that the patient will be able to return to his homeland next week.
The total cost of the surgery amounted to $11,900, covered by a fundraising campaign from a church in Singapore.
