A Former NASA Engineer is Preparing to Launch a Satellite That Will Allow Everyone to Take Selfies in Space.
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) frequently share breathtaking selfies with Earth and the wonders of space in the background.
Now, you too can take a selfie in space without ever stepping outside of it.

How is this possible? According to The Verge, a new satellite set to launch will enable you to take a selfie with Earth in the background.
Mark Rober is leading this project. He is an American engineer, inventor, and educator, known for his popular science videos and DIY tutorials on YouTube.
Before becoming a YouTuber, he worked at NASA, contributing to the Curiosity rover project on Mars.
Recently, Rober announced a unique project called “Space Selfie.”
This new project is a collaboration between Mark Rober, Google, and T-Mobile, which will launch a satellite named SAT GUS in January 2025 through SpaceX’s Transporter 12 mission.
The satellite is equipped with two Google Pixel phones and two cameras. One of the Google Pixel phones is housed inside a radiation-resistant shell. Another camera is mounted facing the phone to capture your selfie with Earth in the background.
Additionally, the satellite includes a GPS tracker and solar panels to power the devices.
Users will simply upload their selfies to the platform, and through the established system, they will receive a selfie with Earth as the backdrop.

In a YouTube video, Rober describes his project as follows: “This is a small step for mankind, but a giant leap for your… selfie game.”
Rober shares: “If you provide the name of your city while uploading the photo, the satellite will not only take a selfie over your city’s skyline but will also notify you of the exact timing of the event.”
When the moment arrives, you can step outside, wave, and the camera will capture you once again in the selfie. You could even appear twice in the same photo.
This innovative invention has left the online community surprised and excited for the chance to obtain a unique selfie with Earth in the background.
One user commented under Rober’s video: “This is something I thought was only possible in science fiction when I was a kid! And now it’s becoming a reality for everyone!”.
