American scientists have previously discovered a “tenth planet” in the Solar System, and now they are announcing an exciting new finding: this planet has a moon.
While observing the aforementioned “tenth planet,” a team of astronomers led by Professor Michael Brown from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) discovered a faint object moving alongside this planet. Since it is in motion, scientists believe this is a “moon” rather than a star, which typically remains stationary.
The discovery of this “moon” is extremely significant because by determining the distance and orbit of the moon, scientists will be able to calculate the mass of the new planet.
In July, Professor Brown’s team identified the “tenth planet,” named Sena, which is located nearly 15 billion kilometers from Earth. It is one and a half times the size of Pluto and is the fastest-moving object in the solar orbit ever recorded.
