Kalbod Design, a studio based in Tehran (Iran), introduces the Dubai Healthcare City project featuring a striking 1,000,000m2 skyscraper at its center.
The Dubai Healthcare City island project.
The new island, named Dubai Healthcare City, is a multifunctional complex focused on providing high-quality healthcare services, integrating advanced technologies and sustainable design principles, while adhering to the unique geographical and social conditions of the region, Design Boom reported on May 15.
Dubai Healthcare City features a crescent shape and incorporates Islamic geometric design elements. The island operates as a closed complex with its own underwater transport system, residential areas with lush greenery for patients, and facilities for education and development.
The island’s entrance is located underwater, limiting cars from accessing and moving around the island. The underwater transportation infrastructure includes a monorail system and electric vehicles. Stations are strategically placed throughout the island to facilitate efficient movement. Meanwhile, pedestrians can freely navigate the island.
The island center is marked by a skyscraper covering up to 1,000,000m2.
The island comprises three main areas. The central area is designated for education and research, while the medical and residential zones surround it. Suspended pathways between these zones will provide fresh air circulation and serve as green spaces. Pedestrians can move at different heights, enjoying the unique views of Dubai and the Persian Gulf.
The island center is highlighted by a skyscraper spanning 1,000,000m2, divided into two parts: a base of 670,000m2 designated for educational activities and an upper crescent section of 330,000m2 for exhibition halls, research and development rooms, a science and technology park, a library, and a showcase of digital achievements. In addition to the central building, Dubai Healthcare City will include 14 towers dedicated to medical functions and 24 hotels at both ends of the island. These structures are symmetrically arranged on either side of the main skyscraper.
According to Kalbod Design, every building will feature terraces and roofs planted with various types of vegetation, providing shade and natural ventilation. Additionally, these features will help improve the air quality in Dubai.
