Users can speed up their old phones without spending money on new devices or battery replacements by following these two simple methods.
Every phone tends to slow down significantly after a period of use. Its performance no longer matches its original capabilities, which greatly affects the user experience. Many users feel frustrated when they have to wait too long for their smartphone to run applications, load web pages, or update software.

Instead of purchasing a new phone or spending money on hardware upgrades, users can simply adjust a few settings to enhance the speed of their smartphones.
According to technology expert Krizza Buendia from Euphoric View, refreshing background apps is a useful feature that allows content in apps running in the background to be continuously updated even while users are using them. This feature enables users to switch between applications easily without needing to wait for them to reload.
“However, this will consume battery, use up system resources, and slow down the phone’s performance,” the expert noted. To address this issue, users only need to turn off the automatic background app refresh setting.
“After doing this, you will notice a significant improvement in battery life and performance,” Buendia said. These applications will still run in the background but will only refresh their content when the user reopens the app, rather than continuously updating.

For iPhone users, go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh, then scroll down to find the app you want to disable this feature for.
For Android smartphone users, navigate to Settings > Connections > Data Usage > Mobile Data Usage. Here, you can select and find the app you want to disable background data refresh for.
Expert Buendia also advises users to regularly check the installed apps on their iPhones and delete those that are no longer in use to free up memory space and system resources.
Next, after disabling background app refresh, users should pay attention to the apps currently open on their phones.
“If you have multiple tabs open at the same time on a computer, you will easily notice that the wait time for each task is extended. This is also true for smartphones. If too many applications are used simultaneously, the phone’s memory will fill up, causing the device to respond more slowly,” said developer Abdul Saboor from The Stock Dork.
According to him, closing unnecessary background apps will help the smartphone run faster. Users simply need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause for a few seconds in the middle to access the multitasking view. Here, swipe up on the app tabs to close those that are not in use.
