Northern Vietnam experiences heavy rain and thunderstorms, strong tropical depression on June 29th

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from June 29 to the night of June 30, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An provinces will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas facing very heavy rainfall (the heaviest rain is expected in the evening and at night).

The forecasted cumulative rainfall over 24 hours from June 29 to the night of June 30 in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa is typically between 40-80mm, with some areas exceeding 120mm.

On June 30, during the day and night, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An provinces will see rainfall generally between 30-70mm, while Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, and Bac Kan may experience over 100mm.

Thunderstorms may bring the possibility of whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds. There is a high to very high risk of flash floods and landslides in the mountainous provinces of the Northern region and flooding in low-lying areas.

As of 1 AM on June 29, the center of the tropical depression is located at approximately 16.2 degrees North latitude and 116.2 degrees East longitude, about 500km east of the Paracel Islands. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression are at level 6 (40-50 km/h), with gusts reaching level 8. The radius of strong winds at level 6 and gusts at level 8 is about 80km from the center of the tropical depression.

Forecast for the next 24 hours: The tropical depression is moving slowly northwest at a speed of 5-10 km/h and is expected to strengthen. By 1 AM on June 30, the center of the tropical depression will be located at approximately 17.2 degrees North latitude and 115.4 degrees East longitude, about 420km east of the Paracel Islands. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression will be at levels 6-7 (40-60 km/h), with gusts up to level 9.

The danger zone due to the tropical depression in the East Sea for the next 24 hours (winds at level 6 and above, gusts from level 8 and above): from latitude 15 to 19 degrees North; from longitude 113.5 to 117.5 degrees East. All vessels operating in this danger zone are at high risk of being affected by strong gusts and large waves. The natural disaster risk level is 3.

In the next 24 to 48 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move predominantly northwest at a speed of 5-10 km/h and is expected to strengthen further. By 1 AM on July 1, the center of the tropical depression will be at approximately 18.3 degrees North latitude and 114.4 degrees East longitude, about 370km northeast of the Paracel Islands. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression will be at level 7 (50-60 km/h), with gusts reaching level 9.

The danger zone due to the tropical depression in the East Sea for the next 24-48 hours (winds at level 6 and above, gusts from level 8 and above): from latitude 16.0 to 20.5 degrees North; from longitude 112.0 to 117.0 degrees East. All vessels operating in this danger zone are at high risk of being affected by strong gusts and large waves. The natural disaster risk level is 3.

In the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression will continue to move northwest at a speed of about 10 km/h and has the potential to strengthen into a storm.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, the eastern waters of the Northern East Sea will experience strong winds at level 6, gusts at level 8; wave heights will range from 2-4m; the sea will be rough. In the waters from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, and the central and southern East Sea (including the waters of the Spratly Islands), the southwest winds will gradually strengthen to level 5, occasionally reaching level 6, with gusts at levels 7-8, wave heights from 2-3m; the sea will be rough.

The weather in Hanoi will be cloudy, sunny during the day with some areas experiencing heat, and moderate rain and thunderstorms expected in the evening and at night, with some areas facing heavy rain. Winds will be from the south to southeast at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 26-28 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will reach 33-35 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

The Northwest provinces will be mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day, with some areas facing heavy rain; moderate to heavy rain is expected in the evening and at night, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms. Winds will be light. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 23-26 degrees Celsius, with some areas below 22 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will be 32-35 degrees Celsius; specifically, Lai Chau and Dien Bien will see temperatures of 30-33 degrees Celsius.

The Northeast provinces will have cloudy weather, with showers and thunderstorms during the day, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. In the evening and at night, moderate to heavy rain is expected, with some areas facing very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms; the plains and Thanh Hoa will be cloudy, sunny during the day with some areas experiencing heat, and moderate rain expected in the evening and at night, with some areas facing heavy to very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms. Winds will be from the south to southeast at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 24-27 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas seeing temperatures below 23 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will be 30-33 degrees Celsius, while the plains will see temperatures of 32-35 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

The Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien – Hue will have cloudy weather, with hot and scorching temperatures during the day, with some areas experiencing extreme heat, and scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the evening and at night. Winds will be from the southwest at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 27-30 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will be 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.

The provinces and cities from Da Nang to Binh Thuan will have cloudy weather, sunny during the day, with the northern areas experiencing heat and extreme heat, and scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the evening and at night. Winds will be from the southwest at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 25-28 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will reach 32-35 degrees Celsius; specifically, the northern areas will see temperatures of 35-38 degrees Celsius.

The Central Highlands will have cloudy weather, sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the evening and at night, with some areas facing heavy rain, and thunderstorms in some areas at night. Winds will be from the southwest at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 21-24 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will be 29-32 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 32 degrees Celsius.

The Southern provinces will have cloudy weather, sunny during the day, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the evening and at night, with some areas facing heavy rain, and thunderstorms in some areas at night. Winds will be from the southwest at levels 2-3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts. The lowest temperature will be 24-27 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature will range from 31-34 degrees Celsius.
