The Axiom Mission 1 by SpaceX, scheduled for April 6, will carry a special device to the International Space Station (ISS) to study the production of meat in a microgravity environment.
Axiom Mission 1 will research meat production in a microgravity environment.
According to Sputnik News, the company founded by billionaire Elon Musk is planning to conduct an experiment on artificial meat in space. The crew of Axiom Mission 1 will be sent to the ISS, collaborating with the Israeli startup Aleph Farms to create artificial steak.
The crew, part of the Israeli Defense Forces, will bring a special device to the ISS, connecting it to a power supply so that researchers on Earth can control it.
“Aleph Farms is developing a technology platform to produce beef steaks from a small amount of available resources. Understanding the mechanics of this process in low-gravity conditions will help refine a cultivated meat production process, supporting long-term space missions and establishing an efficient production process to minimize environmental impact,” a spokesperson for Aleph stated.
According to scientists, this experiment also lays the groundwork for future research on the ability to provide meat for astronauts and how to produce sufficient food supplies for long-term missions.
