Forecast from now until the end of March 2022: Northern provinces will be affected by three cold air waves.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a strong cold air mass is expected to descend upon the Northern region around the night of March 22 to March 23, bringing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The heaviest rain will be concentrated in the Northwest region, particularly in the provinces of Điện Biên, Lai Châu, and Lào Cai. The mountainous areas in these provinces will face risks of flash floods and landslides. In the lowland areas, rain and a significant drop in temperature are expected on March 23.
The cold air will bring temperatures down to 17-19 degrees Celsius in the lowlands and 14-16 degrees Celsius in the mountainous regions.
Specifically, in the Northern region from now until March 22, there will be light rain in some areas, with early morning fog and light mist scattered throughout. Sunny weather is expected in the afternoon. It will be cold at night and in the early morning.
From the afternoon of March 22 to March 25, there will be scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Particularly, on the night of March 22 and 23, there will be rain showers with scattered thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain. The temperature will drop starting from the night of March 22.
The area from Thanh Hóa to Thừa Thiên Huế will experience light rain in the evening from now until March 22, with early morning fog and scattered light mist. Sunny weather is expected in the afternoon, with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the evening.
From March 23 to 24, there will be scattered rain showers and some thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening. The northern region will experience cold nights, while the southern region will be chilly at night and in the morning.
The area from Đà Nẵng to Bình Thuận will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night from now until March 25, with sunny weather during the day.
The Central Highlands and Southern region will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night from now until March 27, with sunny weather during the day; specifically, on March 21 and 23, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening.
In Hanoi, from March 19 to 22, there will be light rain in some areas, with early morning fog and scattered light mist. Sunny weather is expected in the afternoon, with cold nights.
From the afternoon of March 22 to March 25, there will be rain and scattered rain showers. Particularly, on the night of March 22 and 23, there will be rain showers with scattered thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain. The temperature will drop starting from the night of March 22.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting noted that subsequent cold air waves are likely to strengthen on March 26 and March 31.
