Just after casting the line, the man pulled up a “huge” fish.
It turns out the fish that bit the bait is the European catfish.
A video captures a man casting his line into a clear blue lake. As soon as he dropped the bait and gently pulled it towards himself, fish began to chase after it to eat. As a result, he managed to pull up a “huge” creature that bent his fishing rod significantly.
The fish that bit the bait was a European catfish (Scientific name: Silurus glanis), a large species often kept in ponds for recreational fishing, so this individual released the fish after catching it. European catfish can live up to 50 years in the wild.
The largest catfish ever caught on a rod weighed an impressive 144 kg and measured 278 cm in length, caught in the Po River in Italy in 2000. Meanwhile, the heaviest fish caught by other means weighed over 400 kg (according to Fishing World Records).
