The Yagi typhoon is currently moving through the Gulf of Tonkin at a speed of 15-20 km/h, maintaining intensity at level 14, and is forecasted to make landfall in Quang Ninh – Hai Phong by noon today.
The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting reported that at 6 AM, the wind speed near the center of the storm was 166 km/h, level 14, with gusts increasing by three levels. The storm’s center is approximately 160 km from the coast of Quang Ninh – Hai Phong, moving at a speed of 15-20 km/h towards the west-northwest, expected to reach Quang Ninh – Hai Phong by noon with wind speeds of level 11-12.
The storm will then move into the Northeast region with wind speeds of level 11, gusts up to level 13, and will wreak havoc in this area until the evening. Meteorological agencies have measured wind speeds of level 11, gusts at level 13 on Bach Long Vi Island; level 6 gusting to level 10 on Co To Island; level 6 gusting to level 8 in Mong Cai; and level 7 gusting to level 8 in Cua Ong.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the storm is currently in the center of the Gulf of Tonkin and still retains the strongest wind speed of 144 km/h, similar to last night, and as it approaches the coast of Quang Ninh, the wind speed drops to 126 km/h. The Hong Kong Observatory assessed that Typhoon Yagi’s wind speed has decreased to 185 km/h.
Due to the storm’s influence, the Gulf of Tonkin, including the island districts of Bach Long Vi and Co To, will experience strong winds of levels 9-11, with areas near the storm center experiencing levels 12-14, gusting to level 17, and sea waves reaching heights of 6-8 meters.

From today until September 9, Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa will experience rainfall of 100-350 mm, with some areas exceeding 500 mm. The heaviest rain is expected in the Northeast region tonight and into the day, while the Northwest region will see heavy rainfall from tonight until the night of September 8, potentially causing flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on slopes.
Real-time observations from last night to this morning indicate light rain on the mainland of Quang Ninh, with winds gradually increasing. In Hai Phong City, while Bach Long Vi Island is experiencing strong winds, with trees swaying, the inner city is seeing light rain and gentle winds. Residents are finalizing their preparations before the storm hits.
