According to weather forecasts, after the holiday period from April 30th, the North will welcome a weak cold air mass moving down from the interior of China. The weather will change, bringing rain after a series of hot sunny days.
According to Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hưởng (Head of the Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Meteorology and Hydrology), during the 5-day holiday (from April 27th to May 1st), the prevailing weather across the country will still be hot and sunny.
“Statistics from the last 10 years show that there has never been a year when all three regions—North, Central, and South—experienced heat at the same time during the period of April 30th and May 1st. The impacts of the El Niño phenomenon are causing temperatures across the country to be higher than the multi-year average. Additionally, this period is affected by a hot low-pressure area from the West, which is causing widespread heat during the holiday,” Mr. Hưởng informed.
Mr. Hưởng added that during the holiday period from April 30th, the North and Central provinces will be affected by the circulation of the hot low-pressure area from the West. From April 26th to around April 30th, the Northern region will experience hot and severe heat, with the highest daily temperatures in the Northwest region ranging from 36 to 39 degrees Celsius, and some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius; in the Northeast region and Hanoi, temperatures will be high at 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.

In the Central provinces from Thanh Hóa to Phú Yên, severe and especially severe heat is expected, with temperatures ranging from 37 to 40 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
The Central Highlands and Southern regions will also experience widespread heat from April 26th to 30th, with temperatures ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, and some areas exceeding 38 degrees Celsius.
It is forecasted that after April 30th, in the first 1-2 days of May, a weak cold air mass will move down from the interior of China, and in the North, there is a possibility of rain showers and thunderstorms returning on May 1st and 2nd. In the South, the Southwest wind is also expected to appear, causing thunderstorms.
During the first days of May, both the North and South should be cautious of thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds.
The meteorological center warns that we are currently in a transitional period, with frequent clashes between different air masses, leading to an unstable atmosphere, hence thunderstorms are expected to occur more frequently compared to other times of the year. In some cases, if convective storm cells develop strongly, they can cause heavy rain accompanied by hail and strong gusts.
Looking further ahead, from now until June (with a focus on May) is a period of weather transition from the cold season to the hot season, and from the dry season to the rainy season in the North, so strong thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, and hail are likely to occur most frequently during the year.
In the mountainous areas, due to the influence of the terrain, strong convective cloud systems can develop, resulting in thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong winds.
