John Robert Schrieffer, the Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1972, has been sentenced to two years in prison for causing a fatal accident in a traffic incident.
Schrieffer, now 74 years old, was driving his Mercedes sports car on the highway at a speed of 160 km/h when he collided with another vehicle, resulting in one death on September 24 of last year.
According to various media reports, Schrieffer’s offense was aggravated by the fact that he did not possess a sports car driver’s license. Furthermore, his driving record indicated that he had previously been fined eight times for speeding violations.
Schrieffer is currently incarcerated in a California state prison in Basko.
John Robert Schrieffer won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1972 for his research on superconductivity, alongside two other scientists.
Prior to the accident, Schrieffer was a professor at Florida State University.
