According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4 AM today (July 22), the center of Typhoon No. 2 (Prapiroon) was located over Hainan Island (China). The maximum wind speed near the center of the typhoon reached level 9 (75-88 km/h), with gusts up to level 11, moving northwest at a speed of approximately 15 km/h.
It is forecasted that within the next 24 hours, the typhoon will maintain its movement direction at a speed of 10-15 km/h and enter the Gulf of Tonkin. By 4 AM on July 23, the center of the typhoon will be over the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin with a strength of level 8 and gusts of level 10. The areas affected by Typhoon No. 2 include the northwestern waters of the North East Sea and the northern Gulf of Tonkin.

In the following 24 hours, the typhoon will continue to move northwest and slow down to a speed of 5-10 km/h. By 4 AM on July 24, the center of the typhoon will be on land in the southern part of Guangxi Province (China), with a strength of level 6 and gusts of level 8.
Around 4 AM on July 25, the typhoon will move west-northwest at a speed of about 5 km/h and weaken into a depression over land in southern Guangxi Province, with strength below level 6.
Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 2, the northwestern waters of the North East Sea experienced strong winds of levels 6-7 this morning (July 22), with winds near the typhoon center reaching level 8 and gusts of level 10, causing rough seas; wave heights of 2-4 meters. The northern Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi Island and Co To Island) is expected to see winds increasing to levels 6-7, with gusts near the typhoon center reaching level 8, causing rough seas; wave heights gradually increasing to 2-4 meters, while coastal waters in Quang Ninh Province will have heights of 1.5-2.5 meters.
On land, starting early on July 23, coastal areas of Quang Ninh Province may be affected by strong winds of level 6, with gusts of level 8.
From tonight until July 24, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa Province may experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with localized areas expecting very heavy rain, totaling rainfall in the northern coastal areas and northeastern areas ranging from 100-200 mm, with some areas over 250 mm; other places in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa Province may see 50-100 mm, with some areas exceeding 150 mm.
The meteorological agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions and inundation in low-lying urban areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts.
Previously, on July 21, the Prime Minister issued a directive requiring ministers and the chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees to promptly and effectively implement measures to respond to the typhoon and flooding to ensure safety for people’s lives and minimize property damage.
