We have seen many unique ideas for reversing climate change. Recently, researchers proposed the concept of freezing the Arctic.
Some climate protection initiatives include suggestions to release balloons into space to combat solar radiation or even creating a gigantic umbrella to block the intense sunlight hitting the Earth. The idea of freezing the Arctic is a novel initiative that has just been announced.

To keep the Arctic environment stable and avoid the increasingly severe impacts of climate change, the top priority is to reflect sunlight away from this region, keeping the ice and snow here from warming and maintaining a permanently frozen state.
A startup in the Netherlands is working to create a thermal shield made of artificial ice. This layer of ice will help prevent natural Arctic ice from melting and will thicken during winter. To achieve this, the startup Arctic Reflections is pumping seawater onto strategically chosen locations.
Researchers involved in this project hope that the seawater will freeze on top of the old Arctic ice and act as a thermal shield. This method is inspired by the techniques used to create ice rinks in some countries.
If successfully implemented in the Arctic, it would create a thermal shield from natural materials, avoiding the need for chemicals while still helping to lower the surface temperature of the Arctic.
Of course, even if successful, this measure will not protect the Arctic ice forever, and hopes for a complete freeze across the Arctic may not become a reality. However, it could buy us more time until we can reduce global carbon dioxide emissions, the greenhouse gas primarily responsible for current global warming.
