Forecasts indicate that between October 20-21, the northern region of Vietnam will experience a cold air mass, bringing chilly nights and mornings to mountainous areas, with temperatures potentially dropping to around 11-13 degrees Celsius.
On the morning of October 18, a meteorological expert informed reporters that a cold front is expected to sweep down into the country around October 20-21. Nights and mornings in mountainous areas will be cold, while the lowlands will experience cooler temperatures. It is forecasted that temperatures in Sa Pa and Mau Son could drop to around 11-13 degrees Celsius.
Due to the influence of a tropical depression strengthening into a storm, from the day and night of October 19, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms will occur in the Northeast region and along the northern coastal areas. Rainfall is expected to range from 40-80mm, with some places exceeding 120mm. The highest temperatures in this area will also decrease by about 2-3 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day.
Temperatures in the North will continue to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius on October 20-21 following the arrival of the cold air mass.

In Hanoi, according to updates from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on October 18, the lowest temperature in the capital is between 23-25 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperature reaching 31-33 degrees Celsius.
On October 19, the highest temperature recorded in Hanoi is around 29 degrees Celsius, with temperatures on October 20-21 fluctuating between 26-27 degrees Celsius, and moderate to heavy rain expected.
According to the meteorological agency, at 7 AM on October 18, the center of the tropical depression was located approximately 240 km west-northwest of the Paracel Islands and about 170 km east of the mainland area of Quang Tri-Quang Ngai. The strongest winds near the center of the tropical depression reached level 7 (50-61 km/h), with gusts up to level 9, moving in a northwest direction at a speed of about 5-10 km/h.
In the next 24 hours, the tropical depression over the eastern waters of the Gulf of Tonkin may strengthen into a storm – the fifth storm of the season.
On the day and night of October 18, from Quang Tri to Thua Thien Hue, there will be heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 70-150mm, and some places exceeding 200mm. Ha Tinh and Quang Binh will see moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 40-80mm, and some places exceeding 120mm.
On October 18, Da Nang and Quang Nam will experience moderate rain, with some areas facing heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 20-40mm, and some places exceeding 70mm. From October 19, heavy rain in the Central region will gradually decrease.
Additionally, on the day and night of October 18, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain of 15-30mm, and some areas exceeding 70mm, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
Heavy rain in the Northeast region and along the northern coast is expected to last until around October 20.
