Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lead to Our Extinction? Some scientists, who are highly aware of the risks associated with the rapid development of this technology, believe it could.
According to them, when AI in general emerges, certain developments could lead to the extinction of humanity, even though the likelihood is relatively low, estimated at 5%.
AI is evolving rapidly, and experts predict that this trend will continue in the coming years. One day, artificial intelligence may surpass humans in certain skills, and this is just the beginning.
Some scientists believe that AI could ultimately be the source of human extinction. This was revealed by a recent survey of 2,778 scientists who have published research on AI.
Participants shared their opinions on the timelines for achieving certain significant milestones in AI development.

They also expressed their views on the potential impacts these technological advancements could have on society.
Major Advances in the Coming Decades
The researchers involved in the survey believe that there is at least a 50% chance that AI systems will complete most of the intellectual tasks that currently characterize human capability, with a milestone for achieving this projected by 2028.
The same applies to artistic skills, such as independently composing complete songs that are difficult to distinguish from human creations or developing entire websites dedicated to processing financial transactions.
However, not many experts believe that by 2028, AI will be capable of performing complex tasks related to physical fields, such as installing electrical systems in a new house.
Some researchers hold the view that AI systems will also be unable to solve problems requiring deep understanding in the coming years.
According to estimates from experts, there is a 50% chance that AI will surpass humans in all areas, from solving complex problems to making critical decisions, through creativity and artistic innovation by 2047.
By the 22nd century, all jobs will be fully automated by AI, with a 50% probability of this occurring.
However, these probabilities are based on the assumption that AI development follows a certain pace and that there will be more innovations in the field.
Is Human Extinction Caused by AI Possible?
Nearly 58% of surveyed researchers believe that there is a 5% chance AI could lead to the extinction of humanity, especially after the emergence of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
This is a highly advanced form of AI that surpasses human intelligence and decision-making capabilities. Therefore, these researchers believe that if such technology escapes our control, it could lead to serious consequences.
The outcomes could be seen as either positive or negative, depending on individual perspectives.
It is crucial that we establish stricter ethical guidelines and government regulations to manage AI development in a way that maximizes benefits while minimizing risks.
Over 70% of surveyed researchers express concerns about various risks associated with AI (not even considering the risks of super AI).
They fear many dramatic scenarios, such as the mass use of technology to manipulate public opinion, the development of chemical or autonomous weapons.
