A few days ago, a man in Phatthalung, Thailand, went fishing with a spear. While diving underwater, he became tired and ran out of breath, so he surfaced to gasp for air. Unexpectedly, at that moment, a fish jumped up and went straight into his mouth.
Shocked and unable to react in time, the man accidentally got the fish stuck in his throat. As he tried to pull it out, the fish kept wriggling, attempting to dive deeper into his throat as if seeking revenge for being caught, which made it impossible for him to breathe and put him in a dangerous situation.
The tilapia fish stuck in the man’s throat when he gasped for air.
Fortunately, a nearby resident noticed something was wrong and rushed to help, taking the fisherman to the hospital. An X-ray revealed a tilapia fish approximately 12.7 cm long lodged in the man’s throat, with its back, tail, and fins covered in sharp spines. It was stuck between his throat and nasal cavity, posing a serious risk.
During the minor surgery to remove the fish from the man’s throat, the doctors had to be extremely careful. After spending over an hour, they finally extracted the fish, which was covered in blood. The sharp fins had injured the man’s throat.
Sermsri Pathompanichrat, a spokesperson for the hospital, stated that the likelihood of such an accident occurring is very low, and in his decades of practice, he had never encountered a similar case. The doctors did their utmost to minimize harm to the patient, who is now recovering.
The news of this incident quickly spread through social media, sparking lively discussions among netizens. Most people were incredulous, unable to believe that someone could be so unfortunate. Many joked that the man might be suffering from retribution for having caught too many fish in the river.
