At the recently concluded Asian Space Conference in Hanoi, many delegates proposed the establishment of an Asian space research organization.
During the 2nd Asian Space Conference, which concluded on November 11 in Hanoi, over 100 scientists from 20 countries across Asia and Europe discussed issues related to the application of satellites in socio-economic development, as well as the institutions and laws governing space activities.
Delegates presented nearly 70 scientific reports concerning satellites, satellite applications, and issues regarding space law relevant to the socio-economic development of countries utilizing outer space.
Many delegates expressed a keen interest in the cooperation for the development of space science and technology, encouraging education and training in space studies, technology transfer, and the utilization of space technology in the region. The proposal for the establishment of an Asian space research organization aims to promote sustainable space development in the region.
The goal of establishing this Asian space research organization is to encourage the exploration and peaceful use of outer space, disseminate the benefits of space technology to member nations, and enhance understanding of space within the region.
Mr. Tran Cong Duy, Deputy Head of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, stated that to develop the space technology sector—a relatively new field in Vietnam—strong cooperation among countries is crucial. The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is currently finalizing a draft strategy for Space Technology from 2006 to 2020, aimed at promoting space technology activities to support the socio-economic development of the country.
