Compared to previous lightweight single-engine helicopters developed by Bell Helicopter, the Bell 505 features a modern design. Its airframe is crafted from steel and composite materials.
In addition to new design components, the Bell 505 retains some aerodynamic parts such as the rotor system from the Bell 206L-4 with two blades, paired with the Safran HE Arrius 2R engine utilizing FADEC engine control technology for high performance.
The Turbomeca Arrius 2R engine has an operational time of up to 3,000 flight hours between maintenance intervals.
The Bell 505 has a maximum range of 644 km, a maximum altitude of 5,672 m, and a top speed of 232 km/h. This helicopter has a fuselage length of 10.53 m, a width of 1.52 m, and a height of 3.25 m. The rotor diameter is 11.28 m with a maximum tilt of 3.5 degrees, while the tail rotor has a length of 1.65 m.
This is also the first lightweight helicopter from Bell Helicopter equipped with the GARMIN G1000H avionics system featuring two 10.4-inch displays that provide crucial information to the crew quickly and accurately, enhancing situational awareness and safety.
Regarding the crew, the Bell 505 requires only one pilot and can carry up to four passengers.
Currently, the Bell 505 is in operation in six countries, including Vietnam.
The Bell 505 helicopters in Vietnam were all manufactured in 2018. The aircraft have been certified safe by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
