Security experts from Comodo Group (USA) are warning that there will be a surge of virus and phishing emails in the final days of the year, particularly targeting online transaction activities.
“Holidays are often a prime time for spreading anonymous emails with content that is either ‘motivational, inquiring’ or encouraging shopping,” stated expert Abdulhayoglu from Comodo Group.
Recently, a phishing email disguised as coming from eBay bore the subject line “Christmas is coming!” and encouraged recipients to visit the website http://www.ebaychristmas.net/. While the email address appeared to be legitimate, in reality, ebaychristmas is a phishing attempt!
According to forecasts from email security center MailFrontier, the number of phishing incidents in this final month could double compared to last year. Notably, in October alone, this organization recorded 15,820 phishing incidents, a significant increase from 8,829 incidents in December 2004.
